100 Number Mine Problems Multiplication & Division 2-99 (digital PDF download)
Recommended for ages 7-11 (although adults may find the problems entertaining as well :)
Many arithmetic drills tend to have a narrow focus, solely emphasizing computation. While this may be unavoidable in the beginning, it would be nice to have a more holistic exercise.
Number Mine problems require the student to find the right combination of numbers to reach a target number. This not only sharpens their aptitude for calculation, but more importantly, their ability to solve open-ended problems through a creative process of trial and error—a skill that has far-reaching benefits.
Plus, it can be rather fun (even for adults). Many times there will be multiple ways to combine the numbers into the target number, and clever mental shortcuts to help, so students are encouraged to be creative and share solutions.
These are perfect to do with your kids or students as a daily exercise.
Objective: Combine the numbers in the grid to reach each target number using multiplication and/or division.
- "2 Numbers" means that exactly two numbers from the grid must be combined into the target number.
- "3 Numbers" means that exactly three numbers from the grid must be combined into the target number.
- "4 Numbers" means that exactly four numbers from the grid must be combined into the target number.
Each grid square can only be used once in any given equation.
Some problems can be solved mentally, but others may require pencil and paper.
There will sometimes be more than one way to combine the numbers into the given target number.
